5 Literary Events We’re Looking Forward To This Week (10/03/2017)
From college-sponsored author discussions to reading groups to literary festivals, we at Red Hen have curated five upcoming literary events across the country for your picking. If supporting local authors, reading wild and engaging stories, learning about the environment, or participating in collaborative projects with indigenous communities fuel your day, then read on!
(1) Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017 – Gary Soto Reading and Discussion @ Chaffey College | Fontana Campus, CA, 4:30pm FREE
If you can’t get enough of Gary Soto’s lecture at the San Francisco Public Library last week, or you’re disappointed you couldn’t attend, then you are in for a treat! Mr. Soto is bringing his charming personality to Southern California on Tuesday, October 3rd, at 4:30pm at Chaffey College’s Fontana Campus. Mr. Soto will be discussing his latest book Meatballs for the People: Proverbs to Chew On. Books will also be available for sale.

(2) Thursday, October 5th, 2017 – Women’s National Book Association, National Reading Group Month presents a reading with ELLEN MEEROPOL and others @ Trident Books, Boston, MA, 7:00pm FREE
The Women’s National Book Association will feature Red Hen author ELLEN MEEROPOL, and others, for their National Reading Group Month. Ms. Meeropol has published three books: House Arrest (2011), On Hurricane Island (2015), and most recently Kinship of Cover (2017).

(3) Thursday, October 7th, 2017 – 22nd Annual Watershed Environmental Poetry Festival @ Martin Luther King, Jr. Civic Center Park, Berkeley, CA, 12:00pm FREE
Come celebrate writers, nature, and community at the 22nd Annual Watershed Environmental Poetry Festival! Channel your inner Emerson or Thoreau by joining poet and eco-educator Chris Olandar on a trek along Strawberry Creek through UC Berkeley to the Festival at Martin Luther King, Jr. Civic Center Park.
Later, enjoy readings from Pulitzer Prize–winner and 1995–97 US Poet Laureate Robert Hass, California’s K-12 student poets, and many others.

Red Hen author, SIEL JU, and our sister publication, The Los Angeles Review, at one event?! You better-clucking-believe it. On Friday, October 6th The Last Bookstore and The Los Angeles Review are proud to host a night of literary reading. Among featured authors include SIEL JU who won Red Hen Press 2015 Fiction Award for her novel, CAKE TIME.

(5) Monday, October 9th, 2017 – Elise Paschen at The Returning the Gift Festival @ University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK, 4:00pm
Starting on October 8th, Returning the Gift Inc. celebrates its 25th anniversary with a four-day festival! Join Elise Paschen, author of The Nightlife, as she celebrates her Osage Nation heritage at the event. Ms. Paschen is scheduled to speak on October 9th at 4:00pm.
