We are back in person and celebrating in Noor’s OUTDOOR* courtyard!

We invite you to join us for Red Hen’s annual benefit gala for an exciting lunch event filled with readings, a live auction, and a chance to meet Red Hen Press authors and members of the literary community.

Carlos Allende – Sponsored by Francesca Bell
Carlos Allende is a media psychology scholar and a writer of fiction. He has written two previous novels: Cuadrillas y Contradanzas, a historical melodrama set during the War of Reform in Mexico, and Love, or the Witches of Windward Circle, a horror farce set in Venice, California. Based on his research on narrative persuasion and audience engagement, he developed the course The Psychology of Compelling Storytelling, which he teaches in the Writers’ Program at UCLA Extension. He lives in Santa Monica with his husband.

Ra Malika Imhotep – Sponsored by Gina Knox
Ra Malika Imhotep is a Black feminist writer and performance artist from Atlanta, Georgia. As a scholar and cultural worker, Ra is invested in exploring relationships between queer articulations of Black femininity, Southern vernacular culture, and the performance of labor. As a steward of Black Studies and Black feminist thought, Ra dreams, organizes, and facilitates spaces of critical reflection and embodied spiritual-political education.

Kristen Millares Young – Sponsored by Linda Horioka
Kristen Millares Young is a prize-winning journalist and essayist whose work has appeared in the Washington Post, the Guardian, and the New York Times, along with the anthologies Pie & Whiskey, a 2017 New York Times New & Notable Book, and Latina Outsiders: Remaking Latina Identity. The current Prose Writer-in-Residence at Hugo House, Kristen was the researcher for the New York Times team that produced “Snow Fall,” which won a Pulitzer Prize. She graduated from Harvard with a degree in history and literature, later earning her MFA from the University of Washington. Kristen serves as board chair of InvestigateWest, a nonprofit news studio she co-founded in Seattle, where she lives with her family.

Yuvi Zalkow is the author of I Only Cry with Emoticons (Red Hen Press 2022) and A Brilliant Novel in the Works (MP Publishing 2012). His short stories have been published in Glimmer TrainNarrative MagazineCarve MagazineRosebudThe Los Angeles Review, and others. He received an MFA from Antioch University. Yuvi also uses his poor drawing skills to make YouTube videos and mobile apps that ooze with his worries and anxiety. You can find out too much information about him at yuvizalkow.com. Yuvi lives with his wife, kid, and grumpy cats in Portland, Oregon.
