The reception will run from 11 a.m.–2:30 p.m. on October, 27, 2019, at NOOR’s gorgeous Sofia Ballroom in Pasadena. The afternoon’s festivities will highlight Red Hen’s vibrant tradition in the literary community with performances from local school children, a silent auction, and readings by these acclaimed authors:

Steve Almond is the author of eight books of fiction and nonfiction including the New York Times bestsellers Candyfreak and Against Football. His short stories have been widely anthologized in the Best American Short Stories, Pushcart Prize, Best American Erotica, and Best American Mysteries series.

 

Elizabeth Bradfield


 Elizabeth Bradfield is the author of the poetry collections Once RemovedApproaching IceInterpretive Work, and Toward Antarctica. She works as a naturalist at home on Cape Cod as well as on expedition ships, runs Broadsided Press, and teaches creative writing at Brandeis University.

 

Percival Everett

Silent Auction:

Red Hen Press’s 25th Benefit Luncheon will feature a silent auction, which will be displayed in the ballroom’s foyer when guests arrive. Guests will have the opportunity to bid on and win packages, art, tech, and more! The auction will open later this summer, so subscribe to our mailing list to be one of the first to be notified!

About the Press:

Red Hen Press has published over 500 poetry, fiction, and literary nonfiction titles since its inception in 1994. The press also maintains four other unique programs:

  • Writing in the Schools (WITS): A literary program founded in 2003 that provides writing workshops and free books to underprivileged elementary through high school students in Title I and low-income charter schools.
  • Literary Events: Nearly thirty reading events yearly, covering the East and West coasts, and international cities such as London and Frankfurt. Events are either free or low-cost and reach upwards of 1,000 audience members annually.
  • The Los Angeles Review: An online journal publishing emerging authors and excellent works of poetry, short fiction, and nonfiction from throughout the country.
  • Literary Awards: Red Hen proudly presents ten awards (totaling $12,000) each year to emerging writers.

Proceeds from this event will help Red Hen Press continue its tradition of literary excellence by supporting its operations and programs.
