Amy Wang at The Oregonian/OregonLive writes:

Oregon's new poet laureate, announced Tuesday, is Kim Stafford, who follows in the footsteps of his late father, William Stafford, in the position.

Kim Stafford, director of Lewis & Clark College's Northwest Writing Institute, has published a dozen books of poetry and prose. His awards and honors include creative writing fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Stewart H. Holbrook Literary Legacy Award from the Portland nonprofit Literary Arts and a Governor's Arts Award for his contributions to Oregon literature.

Gov. Kate Brown announced his two-year appointment as the state's ninth poet laureate.

"There are many ways to serve this state - among them sharing a clarity of language and passion of purpose," Brown said on Twitter. "Kim Stafford is one of our state's most generous literary teachers and I am proud to appoint him as Oregon's next Poet Laureate."

Broadway Books, 1714 N.E. Broadway, will host an informal celebration of his appointment at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, that will include a poetry reading. Click Here for the full Article.
