Brendan Constantine hosting a Poetry Workshop! “The Art of Getting It Wrong”
December 9, 2020 @ 7:00 pm PST
About this Event
In this unusual class, participants will liberate their strongest poetry by embracing its opposite. “Sometimes, in order to strike gold,” he says, “you must dig through lots of mud. You must accept that no matter how skilled and experienced you may be, your worst writing always lies ahead of you.” In addition to creating new poems, students will discuss and explore the problems of saying the ‘unsayable.’ “We [poets] will never describe consciousness, but we might be able to share it. And any job worth doing, is worth doing badly.”
Brendan Constantine is the author of four books of poetry. His work appears in many of the nation’s literary standards including Poetry, Best American Poetry, Poem A Day, Prairie Schooner, and Tin House. His most recent collections are ‘Dementia, My Darling’ (2016 Red Hen Press) and ‘Bouncy Bounce’ (2018) a chapbook from Blue Horse Press. He has received support and commissions from the Getty Museum, James Irvine Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts. A popular performer, Brendan has presented his work to audiences throughout the U.S. and Europe, also appearing on NPR’s All Things Considered, TED ED, numerous podcasts, and YouTube. He currently teaches at the Windward School.
